World-Renowned Database Expert Birgitta Hauser Joins Fresche Solutions

Highly-respected Software and Database Engineer joins Fresche as Senior Modernization Specialist to analyze IBM i client environments and implement application and database modernization solutions.

Montreal, Canada, August 27, 2019 – Fresche Solutions, the world’s leading provider of IBM i digital transformation enablement, application modernization and management solutions, announced today that Birgitta Hauser has joined Fresche as a Senior Application and Database Modernization Specialist. Ms. Hauser will be a key member of Fresche’s Modernization and Transformation Enablement team. As an IBM i expert, she will help companies analyze their systems and pinpoint the areas where IT optimization will best support business initiatives. As a modernization specialist, she will address concerns about aging application environments, with a particular focus on all of the value that companies can derive through database redesign. She will also continue to educate the public on the wealth of possibilities currently offered on IBM i.

“Having Birgitta join us means we are adding an incredible talent and skill to the team,” said John Westcott, Fresche VP of Business Transformation. “We are seeing a tremendous increase in our clients’ need to modernize data, their desire to take advantage of cognitive computing and improve analytics in their organization – and this means taking advantage of modern database and software solutions. We already have a vibrant solution portfolio, and adding someone of Birgitta’s caliber makes it even stronger. She brings a diverse IBM i skill set with an emphasis on leveraging the full functionality of the platform, starting with the database and continuing with all of the possibilities for application modernization. Her experience will be an invaluable asset for our clients.”

Ms. Hauser started programming on the AS/400 in 1992. She has been a software and database engineer since 2008, focusing on RPG, SQL, and Web development on IBM i. Most recently, she worked for Toolmaker Advanced Efficiency GmbH, developing a software package that helps RPG programmers create web applications without knowing HTML, JavaScript, PHP, etc. She was also involved in application and database modernization and SQL performance analysis. Ms. Hauser also works as a trainer for RPG and SQL developers and database administrators/engineers, in addition to consulting on modernization.

Ms. Hauser frequently presents at COMMON and other IBM i and Power Conferences in Europe and North America. She is co-author of two IBM Redbooks and the author of several articles and papers focusing on RPG and SQL. Her latest article, SQL JSON Publishing Functions, focuses on SQL-to-JSON conversion for Db2 for i.

“Birgitta Hauser is one of the most experienced and well-known IBM i software and database engineers in the world,” said Fresche’s Chief Technology Officer, Brendan Kay. “She has extensive experience with RPG, SQL, Db2 for i, web application development for RPG developers and modernization – all areas in which Fresche has solutions for clients. We are particularly enthusiastic about her experience helping IBM i shops adapt to evolving IT and business requirements. Her technical background is outstanding, but her ability to apply it to real-world needs is what makes her such a great fit with Fresche.”

On joining the Fresche Modernization and Transformation Enablement team, Birgitta Hauser says: “Fresche’s goal is to help companies analyze and modernize their applications on the i, which is exactly what I want to do. I’ll help programmers and database administrators and engineers manage the database and use all the features that are available in Db2 and SQL. I’ll also help them analyze their applications and modernize their database through redesign and by moving business logic into the database. In my opinion, Db2 for i is the best database in the world and IBM did a great job to enhance Db2 for i and SQL. Unfortunately, many developers on the i still aren’t taking advantage of all the possibilities – especially with SQL. Fresche is dedicated to client success in modernization, and my objective is to help clients achieve their goals. I’ll do all I can to ensure that they maximize the effectiveness of IBM i.”

Ms. Hauser begins her duties with the Fresche Modernization and Transformation Enablement team immediately.
