Hands-On Python Workshop
In this workshop, Mike and participants will explore the implementation, syntax and application use cases of Python on IBM i. From a fundamentals perspective, participants will get hands-on experience using the command line, shell environment, script creation, storage and execution. As we progress through the workshop we will delve into Db2 data access and program calls using XML Service as well as a brief tour of frameworks. Then we'll wrap things up with how open source applications built in Python can add value to your IT environment.

MVC Application Architecture
Explore a fundamental design architecture known as Model View Controller (MVC). Some PHP code examples will be used in the session however it is not necessary to be fluent in PHP to grasp the concepts and comparisons to RPG constructs are included.

As IBM continues to embrace open-source technologies such as Node.js, PHP and Git on IBM i, there are more and more compelling reasons to make open source a part of your IT strategy. Topics will include the benefits of using open source technologies, options available on IBM i and how to get started and tips for leveraging the skillset of existing staff.
